[ Calling Lupin 'professor' may seem innocuous to Hermione, but Severus reads it and just stares-- in conjuncture with one month he didn't take it and thinks-- if this happened on school grounds--

Severus has to take a moment to keep from falling victim to his own temper. He must file that away for further investigation later, instead. He's signed his whole life over to protect those students. How could.. Albus. ]

That may be premature. I have to be able to brew it first. Ingredients here are limited. I can re-create plenty from what's available but something this involved and potentially fatal if mis-mixed is going to take time.

[Yes, it was as bad as he thinks, however no one was killed. Except for Buckbeak, but that's what Time-Turners are for, right?]

You manage it well enough in the future, though even then you hint that it's burdensome.

[Which can either be because it's for Remus or because the potion is complicated. Or both.]

It is not a matter of managing it. It is a matter of trying to make an apple pie without any apples available. [ There are no magical gardens in space, no seeds from which to grow enchanted herbs and roots. Severus has spent months going through what is available, however, and he knows he can make it work. It'll just take a minute.

No comment on burdensome. He knows himself well enough to know he won't be able to stop going on about werewolves if he starts. Surely it's enough that he's taken the initiative on this. ] But it will be done.

The only ingredient I have with me is Essence of Dittany. [For obvious reasons.] The rest of my belongings are books taken from the Hogwarts Library, a portrait, a tent...

[She is more than willing to share.]

I'm sure he'll be appreciative.

Quite the magpie's collection. [ Why yes, he IS going to be utterly resistant to other people making helpful or friendly overtures at him no matter what. ] Speak to Lupin of it if you wish.

I wanted to know the spells that could be used against us. [So yes, a few books on the Dark Arts.] It might reassure him to know how much it helps.

I suppose no one's given you information on countering their strengths, if you're looking up forbidden spells in library books.

[ Death Eaters. Obviously. It can't translate over text, but Severus rolls his eyes. More unprepared children, Albus? Because that worked so well the first time around. It's a vicious thought: Lily, barely of age, deciding to switch their secret-keeper and tell no-one, a stupid, childish mistake.

We know about the Unforgivables, but there are plenty of other spells that the Hogwarts curriculum doesn't exactly cover.

[She would rather live in a world where she didn't have to know, but she doesn't. No one does.]

Just as many dark spells exist as there do light ones. Perhaps more. But with luck none of you will have need of their counters, here.

I hope so, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

[ Harry's involvement in the nightmare on Arima prevents Severus from agreeing. He's prepared, but he's skeptical of any of them. Hermione seems smarter, but... He wonders if the boy will tell her. Or his mother. ]

If I can assist you in any way with the Wolfsbane Potion or with Ilde - I have spoken with her - please let me know.

[She knows he monitored that conversation, but why be rude?]

Talk to Lupin.

[ Merlin knows he won't appreciate hearing anything from Snape.

Anything else-- jury's out. He and Ilde have finally spoken since the row he's sure their entire passenger floor heard, but it's tentative. He certainly doesn't want anyone looking over his shoulder about it. ]

I will. I'll contact him now.

[She dislikes not having a goal, but with her notes - which she has read through multiple times - and a whole ship to explore, she is keeping her time well-occupied.]

[ No reply. That she assents is enough.

In time, perhaps, Severus will come around to-- anything. But it's against his nature and, having watched Hermione converse with Lily a little, he feels even more invasive than usual just by existing. Lily should have the support of the other witch, and he should stay as far away as he can. ]
